Roy “Sonny” Henson, 66, of Salem, passed away Friday, January 25, 2019, at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia. He was born on October 11, 1952, in Salem. He was reared by his paternal grandparents, Arthur W. and Sarah C. Henson. His grandmother served as the mascot for his baseball team known as “Granny’s Palace” of which she never missed a game. He married Vicki Boatwright in 1979 and they later divorced. They had three children together and she survives in Centralia.
He is survived by his treasured daughters: Linzi “Punkin” Henson Swickard of Central City and McKinzi “Brown Eyes” Henson of Centralia; two worshipped grandsons: Jayden and Hudysn Swickard both of Central City; three sisters: Sandy Leuty and husband Jim of Kell, Jugs Johnson of Centralia, and Billy Jo McGee of Omega; several half-brothers, half-sisters, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents and his son, Zakary “Bodie” Henson. Sonny worked with local oil companies as an oil field supplies salesman and repairman. Sonny was a master of wild mushroom hunts, and enjoyed fishing and the St. Louis Cardinal but, nothing transcended his enjoyment of The Three Stooges. He lived his life-giving his world a reason to laugh.
