Roy N. Kennedy, the son of Robert C. and Mary Regina (Granquist) Kennedy, was born January 3, 1930 in Newton. He graduated from Newton High School in the class of 1948. Following high school, Roy served in the U.S. Navy and also attended radio school in Omaha.
On January 1, 1954, Roy was united in marriage with Evelyn R. Savage in Newton. They were blessed with three children, Michael, Debra and Daniel. Roy worked in auto assembly at the Maytag Company.
Roy died Sunday, November 16, 2008 at Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell. He was 78. Roy was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael “Mike” Kennedy in 2006; and his brother, Robert Verland Kennedy.
Those left to honor Roy’s memory include his wife, Evelyn R. Kennedy of Grinnell; daughter, Debra K. “Deb” (John) Gerth of Grinnell; his son, Daniel G. “Dan” (Valerie) Kennedy of Farrar; grandchildren: Dustin L. Montgomery, Benjamin D. Kennedy, Shelby R. Montgomery, and Gracie K. Kennedy; and his step-mother, Dortha Robinson Kennedy of Stockton, CA.
