Roy Foster and Carmen Longfellow were married May 16, 1945 in Buchanan, Michigan. After more than 63 years of marriage they died 4 days apart at their home in Galien, Michigan surrounded by their loving children.Roy Foster was born July 12, 1921 in Baroda, Michigan to Bert and Hazel (Brown) Foster.
He attended Rolling Prairie High School. Roy joined the U.S. Army and was Honorably Discharged. He continued his family’s legacy by farming the land all his life. Roy belonged to many antique tractor organizations and always bought FORD’s when buying a new car, truck or tractor. He died Saturday night, January 31, 2009 at his home. Roy was 87 years old.Carmen J. Foster was born September 12, 1927 in Galien to Howard and Lena (Miller) Longfellow. She graduated from Galien High School in 1945. Carmen was employed by Pawating Hospital in Niles, and later served as librarian at the Three Oaks Library.
She was a member of the Galien United Methodist Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She died Wednesday night, February 4, 2009 at her home. Carmen was 81 years old.Roy and Carmen are survived by their children, Marjorie Foster and John Trapp of Buchanan, Michigan; John Foster and Cheryl Thomas of Three Oaks, and Ted and Joyce Foster of Galien; grandchildren Dean (Bernita) Foster, Carmen (Randall) Cook, Jacob Foster (Susan), Sarah (Brian) Snodgrass, and Joel (Bridget) Foster, great grandchildren, Rose, Maisie, and Emma; Carmen’s sister, Helen Dodd of Port Orange, Florida and her brothers Charles “Bud” (Rachel) Longfellow of Port Orange, Florida; Robert “Burl” (Eleanor) Longfellow of Baroda, Michigan and Thomas (Pauline) Longfellow of Galien and Roy’s sister-in-law, Donna Foster of Georgia.
They were preceded in death by their parents; Roy’s sisters, Ethelyn, Lois, Mary and Olive; Roy’s brothers, Lowell, Glen and Frank.
