Those left to honor Roy’s memory are his nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie E. and Eva (Boster) Garrett; and his wife, Fannie in 2000.
Roy served his country in the U. S. Army from 1942-1946 during WW II.
Roy was a graduate of New Providence Consolidated Schools in New Providence, Iowa in 1931. He also was a graduate of the Cedar Rapids Business College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Roy worked in the hardware store business for 46 years. He was a clerk at the King’s Hardware Store in Winterset, Iowa from 1937-1940. In February of 1940 Roy and Fannie purchased Petersen Hardware in Newton, Iowa and together they owned and operated Garrett Hardware until retiring on August 23, 1983.
