Roy D. Mucilli, 70, died at St. Anthony’s Hospital on January 12, 2019, after a brief but fierce battle with cancer.

Roy was born in North Denver and grew up in a tight knit community of Italian families, forming lifelong friendships and attending Regis High School. He joined the Army Reserves and completed his mechanical engineering degree at the University of Colorado Boulder. He went on to spend his working life developing the functional backbone of the building environments surrounding all of us, developing a particular interest in healthcare engineering. As Senior Healthcare Engineer and Vice President at The RMH Group, Inc, he was noted to have an “innate understanding of complex systems and..unique talent to get to the heart of a project and create thoughtful designs.” Roy refused to retire, saying that he loved his work and his colleagues at RMH and throughout the industry too much to give it up completely.

Roy met his wife Sandra when they were both working at RW Beck and Associates and, after convincing her to give him a chance, spent nearly five decades enjoying incredible adventures, close friendship, and finding deep joy in their partnership. In that time, they raised their beloved children, Natalie McNeill (Chase Binz) of Highlands Ranch and Nick Mucilli (Jaime Katz) of New York City. He was the proud and adoring grandfather of Addison McNeill, delighting in seeing the world through her eyes as she grew.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Lucille Mucilli, as well as his brother and sister-in-law, George and Evelyn Mucilli, and his nephew Joe Mucilli. He was incredibly close to all of his brother’s children and families, enjoying a lifetime of being “Uncle Roy” to them, their children, and grandchildren. His large, interwoven community of cousins and lifelong friends was a source of joy and support to Roy throughout his life.

Roy’s passions included flying R/C airplanes, fishing, golfing, and riding his bicycle. He was an avid softball player and beloved coach for both his children and their teammates, many of whom fondly remember him as the first person to critique but also the first person to congratulate on a job well done. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle and immersing himself in the beauty of the Colorado outdoors.
