Roy Cecil Strickland, Jr., 55, of Palatka, passed from this life on Sunday, October 31, 2021, at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center following a long battle with Cancer.

A native and lifelong resident of Palatka, he was a 1985 graduate of Palatka High School. Roy began working at the Hawthorne plant of Georgia Pacific for 8 years. He then started Strickland Bros. Tree Service which he operated for 11 years and for 2 years, Roy operated Strickland Bros. Towing Service. Roy along with his brother, Johnny, then purchased and operated Jerry’s Drive-In for 12 years.

During the years Roy was also an auctioneer and conducted state auctions, church auctions as well as was the auctioneer for the Rodeheaver Boys Ranch Vehicle Donation Program. He was also a member of a national auctioneer’s association and likewise operated Roy’s Auctions and Thrift Store. While battling Cancer, Roy’s last work was for 4 years for his lifelong friend Daryll Futch, as a salesman with Futch’s Tractor and Power Depot in Palatka.

He had been affiliated with Peniel Baptist in years past and then with Francis Baptist Church. When not working, Roy could be found doing what he enjoyed, fishing, hunting, or dirt track racing in his “Roy Tree 3” & “D 9” cars. But make no mistake, his greatest joy was time spent every day being “granddaddy to his 2 grandchildren!

He was preceded in death by his father, Roy C. Strickland, Sr.

Roy is survived by his wife of 28 years, Christy Strickland of Palatka, a daughter, Sarah Kay Wells (Travis) of Palatka, a son, Roy C. Strickland, III (Karen) of Interlachen, his mother, Elaine Strickland of Palatka, 2 brothers, Johnny Strickland (Brandy) and Blair Strickland, all of Palatka, his 2 cherished grandchildren, Blair and Briar Wells, his mother-in-law, Kay Owens of Palatka and several nieces and nephews.
