Roy Cavazos

Harlingen, TX –

Roy Cavazos 72, was called home to the Lords Kingdom peacefully surrounded by love of his family on Tuesday, October 6, 2015. He was born May 7, 1943 in Raymondville, TX.

He graduated from San Perlita High School Class of 1961 where he loved to joke that he graduated top 10 of his class, hence there were only 12 students graduating. After high school he enlisted and served his country in the United States Marine Corps., while in the service he loved to play baseball for the Marines baseball team. Roy was honorably discharged.

He served the City of Harlingen for 30 1/2 years as a police officer from 1965 – 1996 until he retired. He enjoyed playing slow pitch softball at Victor Park Mens League for many years. Roy enjoyed playing pool and socializing with friends as well as his many choir practices with his co-workers and friends. He also enjoyed traveling and gambling at the casinos in Las Vegas, Louisiana and Texas. Roy was also a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 205.

He leaves behind to cherish his wonderful memory his loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Elisa A. Cavazos; daughter, Diana Rosa Lucio (Lorenzo); son, Johnny Dan (JD) Cavazos (Laura); his grandchildren, Alyssa Marie Becerra, Marco Andres Rodriguez, and Daniella Magdalena Cavazos; brothers, Gilberto Lopez, Ricardo Lopez, Ramiro Lopez, and Rolando Lopez; sister, Gloria Stults; other living relatives, Eusebio and Olivia Alvarado, Gregorio and Amelia Lopez, and Lupe and Pat Atkinson; he is also survived by numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.

Roy is preceded in death by his mother, Maria Angelita Cavazos Lopez; step-father, Juan Lopez; sister, Dianita Lopez; brother, Rodolfo Lopez; mother-in-law, Maria Bishop; and father-in-law, Clarence Bishop.
