Roy Albert Peck, 78, resident of Flagstaff, Arizona, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family, on May 30, 2016. Roy was born on March 22, 1938, in New Britain, Connecticut; the son of Isabel and Glenn Peck.
Roy first moved to Flagstaff in 1977 and purchased 17 acres of bare land on Leupp Road. He then fulfilled a lifetime dream and built an auto salvage yard on the 17 acres that became known as Flagstaff Auto Recyclers. Roy retired from his business in 1989 and turned the business over to his son, Tom Peck and longtime employee, Paul Wolfe. Upon retirement in 1989, Roy pursued his passion for racing and journeyed to North Carolina into the heartland of the NASCAR racing circuit. It was there that Roy fulfilled another dream. He worked on building and preparing racecars for the Busch Grand National Series. He also occasionally worked as a pit crewmember on race days. Roy also obtained his pilot license and enjoyed flying his plane in surrounding states. Roy had a passion for cars and was affectionately referred to as the “mechanical genius.” Roy also had a passion for tinkering and building anything that his imagination could dream up, including cutting and hauling logs for a log cabin he built.
Roy is survived by his companion, Penny Bender, sister, Lenora LaForge, and her husband, Clyde; sister, Beth Mastriani, and her husband, Reno; sister, Susan Peck; brother John Peck (deceased); his Aunt Marge Cote; his ex-wife Rosemarie Peck and their children, Ronald Peck, Thomas Peck, Linda Miller and Laura Sherwood; his grandchildren, Katherine Yoshikawa, Shanell Beecher, Natalie Brown, Devin Miller, Garrett Sherwood, Austin Sherwood, Alexis Peck and Jennifer Peck, and many nieces, nephews and great grandchildren.
