Roy Addison Nowell, 84, of Boerne, Texas, went to be with the Lord on November 3, 2012. He was born August 9, 1928 in Rufugio, Texas to John and Rose Kesei Nowell. After High School graduation, he attended St. Mary”s University and married the love of his life, Helen Folschinky, in 1948. They celebrated 64 years of marriage in October. Roy was quite an outstanding baseball player (pitcher) which led to his recruitment and hiring by Humble Oil and Refining Co. (now Exxon) in 1947. He worked for Exxon 39 years over most of South Texas retiring as a Senior Field Superintendent in 1986. Roy was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council. He was a lover of sports and spent twelve years refereeing basketball and football in the South Texas area. He was a member of SFOA. After retirement from Exxon, Roy became a rancher, raising Registered Black Angus cattle. In 2000, he and Helen moved to Boerne, Texas where they both loved the Hill Country. It was then he gave up cows for his two favorite boxers, Bruno and Max, who were his constant companions. Roy had a great sense of humor and will be missed by many friends and a loving family. In addition to his wife, Helen, he is survived by his four children, Dawn Hoover (John) of Dallas, Steven Nowell (Patsy) of Leander, Matthew Nowell (Linden) of Wimberly, and Bernadine Nowell-Rowston (Mark) of South Lake; eight grandchildren; three great grandsons; sister, Mary Parris (Win) of San Antonio. The Recitation of the Rosary will be on Thursday, November 8 at 7:00 p.m.
