Roxana Leigh Greene, Midland, Michigan, age 75, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2022 at her home residence in Midland, under hospice care. Her family were gathered at her bed side.
Roxana, better known to her friends as Roxie, was born as Roxana Leigh Hagan in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Flint Michigan on November 24, 1946 to Mr. Darrel Hagan and Mrs. Wilma Hagan. She was married to Mike Greene on July 15, 1978.
Roxie grew up in Holly, Michigan, and graduated in 1964 with honors from Holly High School. She attended Bob Jones University from 1964-1968 where she had a broad educational background in elementary education, business, the humanities, journalism and radio/talk. She went to work as a writer for the BJU Radio Station associated with the university from 1968-1971. She received national recognition and awards for her creative writing. From there she worked with an Advertising Agency in Greenville, South Carolina, writing commercials from 1971-1973 prior to her return to Michigan in 1973. She was so well respected for her writing that 30 years after leaving the radio station she was contacted by the same agency to do contract commercial writing for a period of 6 years between 1998-2004.
It was in Grand Blanc Michigan at the Berean Baptist Church that she met her future husband, Mike Greene. They were happily married for 44 years and had a daughter Jodi and a son Thad.
Her passing is a great loss to her family and friends. She was a greatly loved wife and mother. She was very faithful to her church, and in earlier years prior to her decline in health was very active as a teacher, Awana helper, part time secretary, and piano player. She especially enjoyed ministering to the elderly and was naturally gifted with generosity and hospitality. She was always known for her cheerfulness, sense of humor, and wisdom.
Growing up on a farm she had a great sense of how things work and was always coming up with ideas and ways on how to solve problems. During those early years, she came to appreciate gardening, planting trees and caring for flowers and continued those hobbies until the end of her life. Likewise, she was a prolific reader, keeping up with current events in the newspaper, her Ipad, and through social media. Her writing skills and natural cursive hand writing were exquisite—she put those skills to use and until recent years she had written many letters, notes, Christmas cards and various communications that people enjoyed reading. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting, quilting and most of all taking care of her family.
She was a dedicated and genuine Christian woman and always kept before her mind the hope of heaven and seeing Christ one day face to face. While her passing is difficult, her family and friends know that though she is now absent from the body, she is ever present with the Lord (2 Cor. 5:8), where there is no death, no sorrow, no pain, nor tears, which was her great hope as a believer in Jesus Christ.
Her parents Darrell Hagan and Wilma Hagan preceded her in death. She is survived by her brothers Jim Hagan and Tim Hagan, her husband Mike Greene, son Thad Greene, daughter Jodi Alvord and son-in-law Jason Alvord.
