Rowley (John) R. Pollock, Jr. 82, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2008, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Rowley Raymond Pollock, Jr. was born August 21, 1925, in Anita, Iowa, the son of Rowley Raymond, Sr. and Ida Alice (Dorale) Pollock. Rowley was raised in Anita and attended Anita High School.

Rowley entered the Navy while still a senior in high school in November 1943. He entered as a Fireman 1st Class and later was promoted to Electricians Mate 3-C. He spent time in Pearl Harbor, the Marshall Islands, and one year in the Aleutian Islands during WWII. He was discharged May 1946 and had enough credits from Electrical school to receive his diploma from Anita High School.

After his discharge from the Navy, Rowley worked as an electrician for Western Electric in California, Dubuque and Davenport, Iowa, and Omaha, Nebraska.

On August 25, 1949, Rowley married Shirley Ann Scott in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

He farmed southeast of Anita until 1959 at which time he worked as a carpenter in the new housing development on South Olive in Atlantic. In 1960 he started working for Atlantic Municipal Utilities and retired from there in 1987. He then worked for Atlantic Parks and Recreation for approximately 17 years.
