Rowena was born in Allen, Nebraska, on March 7, 1919, to Walter and Alice (Rakow) Krause. Rowena was baptized and confirmed at first Lutheran Church in Allen, and graduated from Allen Consolidated High School. She was a member of Lutheran Church Women and was a Sunday School teacher for many years.
After marrying Lester Ellis on May 4, 1941, the couple farmed near Allen, NE and Lester managed the Wakefield Co-op until his death in 1969. Rowena worked at the Allen School, Security State Bank and United States Post Office in Allen, NE. She retired from the Post Office after 23 years of service. In 1997 Rowena moved to The Meadows in Norfolk, NE and made that her home for 17 years until recently moving to Saint Joseph’s Nursing Home.
Survivors include her son Brian (Roxanne) Ellis of Norfolk, daughter Cynthia (James) Gowin of Tacoma, WA. Grandchildren are Brenna Gowin of Tacoma, WA, Bridget and Hiedi Marr of Omaha, great-granddaughter Jasmine Marr of Omaha and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister Darlene Engel.
