Roumain J. Ruppert, 80 of Mallard died Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg. Roumain John Ruppert, son of Frank and Bertha (Rubel) Ruppert, was born on November 28, 1934 in Mallard, Iowa. He graduated in 1953 from Mallard High School and began his career farming. On September 9, 1959 he was united in marriage to Lavonne Kollasch at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Whittemore. To this union, three sons and two daughters were born. Roumain enjoyed raising crops and especially livestock and spent his life farming the same homestead where he was born. Roumain was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and his community. He served on the Fair Board, the Cattlemen’s Association, and as a 4-H leader and volunteer. In his free time, there was nothing he enjoyed more than attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and concerts with Lavonne. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years, Lavonne, and his five children Larry (Linda) Ruppert of Mallard; Juliann (Bert) Naig of Cylinder; Eugene (Sue) Ruppert of Mallard; Carla (Mark) Mueller of Broomfield, Colorado; and Darrell (Michele) Ruppert of Mallard. He is also survived by his twelve grandchildren Melissa and Matthew Ruppert; Amy (Andrew) Ritchie and Karen (Spenser) Frank; Brian, Bradley (Courtney), and Jennica Ruppert; Adam (Rachael) and Tyler (Kasey) Mueller; John Lanning and Tristen and Isabelle Ruppert; three great grandchildren Ally, Ryan, and Matthew; and his sister Gwen (Jack) Donahue. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Francis.
