Rossine Waddell Etchieson
Born in Norman on March 12, 1928, Rossine Etchieson, a proud resident of Norman, died early Wednesday morning at a facility in Colorado Springs where she had been in care for the past four months. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Lynn Etchieson; her parents Ross R. and Cora Fore Waddell; her older brother, Charles W. Waddell; older sister, Melba Bishop; and younger brother, Dean C. Waddell.
Rossine married her husband of sixty years, Marshall, soon after their 1947 graduation from Norman High School. She and Marshall chose to remain in Norman where they were close to both of their families and close to the University of Oklahoma. Rossine worked for The Norman Transcript in the classified advertising department before becoming a full time mom and homemaker. Years later she returned to the work force and was employed in the food service industry where she held positions with Target, Adair’s Cafeteria and eventually retired from the Norman Public School System’s Central Kitchen.
Gardening, walking, and boating were hobbies she enjoyed during her life. However her true dedication was to her family and pets. Rossine believed that a home should be a welcoming place where family and friends gather to share food and conversation. She will be remembered as a selfless beloved mother, animal lover, sister, aunt, the ultimate hostess as well as a great cook too!
Rossine is survived by her daughter, Lieutenant Colonel, (Retired) Marcene Etchieson and son-in-law Lieutenant Colonel, (Retired) Robert F. Mull of Woodland Park, Colorado; her younger sister and husband, Mary Jean and J.W. Malaby of Norman; her niece, Brenda Bishop of Norman, who until recently was her in-home companion; and various nieces and nephews from Norman, other parts of Oklahoma, Texas, California and South Carolina; and five adoring cats…all placed in new homes.
