Rosetta Mae Bishop, 83, a longtime resident of Clovis, NM passed away to heaven peacefully on January 4, 2023. She was born on August 30, 1939 in Dimmitt, Texas to Loyd B. Hennington and Dimple Dee (James) Hennington.

Upon graduating from high school in Muleshoe, Texas, Rosetta met W.A. “Dub” Bishop and they were married on June 15th, 1958 at First Baptist Church of Muleshoe. Their two children, Vanda and Darren, were born in Muleshoe where Dub was a machinist and Rosetta was a homemaker. In 1967 they moved their family to Clovis, New Mexico where they remained throughout their working lives and retirement years.

Rosetta worked as a special education teacher and teacher’s aide for many years in the Clovis Public School system. Rosetta had many hobbies and interests. She was an avid artist and produced many paintings, drawings and sketches over the years that are all proudly displayed and enjoyed by her children and grandchildren. She and Dub enjoyed camping, birdwatching and nature photography, especially in the mountains of New Mexico and Colorado. Rosetta was also well known for her beautiful alto singing voice and she sang in church choirs her entire adult life.

Rosetta’s Christian faith was the centerpiece of her life and she could often be found serving at church in many different ways, whether as a choir member and soloist, children’s Sunday School teacher, or church librarian. She and Dub faithfully attended Highland Baptist Church and later Central Baptist Church in Clovis.

Rosetta was preceded in death by her mother Dimple Dee Sims and stepfather Oron Sims of Muleshoe and her husband of 60 years, Dub Bishop, of Clovis.

She is survived by her daughter Vanda Thorp and husband Steve of Roswell, New Mexico, and her son Darren Bishop and wife Karen of San Antonio, Texas. Rosetta has seven grandchildren: Lauren Gadzia of Seattle, Washington, Mara Thorp of Phoenix, Arizona, Jordan Bishop of Dallas, Texas, Joseph Bishop of College Station, Texas, Justin Bishop, Jacob Bishop, and Jayce Bishop all of San Antonio, Texas. She is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren.

The family extends their sincere thanks to the staff at Retirement Ranch of Clovis for the care and compassion given to Rosetta during the years she spent there.
