On Sunday, September 9, 2012, Rosemary Wenning quietly made her way back to her husband’s side. Married on May 10th, 1949, her husband Edward T. Wenning preceded her in death in February of 1987. Rosemary passed away in Indianapolis but had lived her life in Decatur County. Born in Millhousen on February 1st, 1928, Rosemary was the daughter of Frank and Elizabeth (Schoettmer) Schwering. Rosemary is now reunited with her husband, her parents, her brothers Ralph and Richard (Dick) Schwering and infant grandson Patrick Griffith. She and Ed’s legacy lives on in their children Kathy (Don) Lotarski, Nancy (Jim) Griffith, Marita (Sam) Field, Michael Wenning, Roger (Mary Beth) Wenning, Jim (Patty) Wenning, Sara (Ted) Enochs, Mary Beth (Tom) Meyer, Dan (Tami) Wenning, Philip (Kim) Wenning, and Patty Sullivan. There are thirty-seven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren and an untold number of extra children and adults that she made feel like family. Rosie is also survived by her sister Mary Catherine Schwering and two brothers Paul (Irene) Schwering and Dale (Shirley) Schwering, sisters-in-law Helen (Dick) and Ruthann (Ralph) Schwering and numerous nieces and nephews. Rosie epitomized motherhood and was a tireless wife, mother and grandmother. Never idle, she was an accomplished seamstress and always had her hands busy with some sort of sewing. Small pieces of fabric became layettes destined for the smallest babies at Riley Children’s Hospital, larger pieces were sewn into “puppy pals” to be given to hospitalized children and sturdier fabrics became pouches that would tie onto walkers. Her yard and garden occupied any spare time and there were always spare fruits, vegetables and flowers to be distributed among her family and friends. Rosemary was a faith-filled member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg and was an active member of the Perpetual Adoration Chapel. She was a charter member of the St. Maurice Homemaker’s Club and was a recipient of the Homemaker of the Year Award. She also received the “Merit of Distinction” award from the Decatur County Extension. She was a loyal Daughter of Isabella, an avid card player with the St. Maurice Card Club and she and Ed were charter members of the Decatur County Rural Couples Club, with Ed serving as the club’s first president. Her grandchildren will always remember her for the fun card games she taught them to play and for the good snacks she always had on hand.
