Rosemary “Penny” Schilling Ferriter passed away peacefully at age 93 on November 12, 2021 at Westminster Village in West Lafayette, Indiana. She was born in Lafayette to the late Ernest H. and Ruth B. Schilling on September 28, 1928. She was a graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School and St. Marys College in South Bend, IN. She met her love and husband Maurice Ferriter in South Bend while he was attending Notre Dame.  Her nickname Penny originated at summer camp when a fellow camper recognized that her last name of Schilling was a coin. They became lifelong friends.

Penny was a mother to four boys and many others looked to her as a second mom. She was a very gracious, humble, and kind person. It was her idea to get the kids out of the city and into the country in 1964. She enjoyed showing horses, ice skating on the farm pond and introducing her four boys to 4H, B.B. guns, tractors and bow and arrows. The boys always had something to do. She will be deeply missed by all.

A devout catholic, she was a member of St Ann’s Parish, Catholic Women’s Study Club, and Order of the Holy Sepulcher. Additionally, she was active in many organizations where she could support the wellbeing of others. The world was always a better place with Penny in it.

She is preceded in death by her husband Maurice (Big Moe) and her two sons Maurie (Moe) and Tim.

She is survived by sons, Tom Ferriter (Kris) of Knoxville Tennessee and Pierce Ferriter of Dayton, Ohio. Penny had 4 grandchildren, Erin Longshore (Jeff) Kansas City, KS; Tim Ferriter (Lisa) LaGrange IL; Tara Lepic (Nate) Iowa City IA; Kevin Ferriter (Liz) Rockford IL and eight great-grandchildren.  The family is extremely grateful for the love and care Penny was given by the entire staff of Westminster Village and Franciscan Hospice Care.  A private family service will celebrate Penny’s wonderful life.
