Landrigan, Rosemary Curry, 82, died gracefully on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 from natural causes at her residence in Austin, Texas. Born and raised in New York City, she graduated from Saint Catharine’s Academy in 1952. Six years later, on the first of February, she married the love of her life, James Francis Landrigan, and from that day forward, you would often hear her telling others how blessed she was in her marriage.
Rosemary worked as a legal secretary in New York, until her first child, James Curry Landrigan, was born, in 1959.
Rosemary returned to the workforce when her children were older, and eventually retired from United Jersey Bank in 1994, where she had worked in the Public Relations Department. After the loss of her husband in 2007, she remained active in her community by volunteering at Valley Hospital, and in her parish as a daily communicant and member of the Rosary-Altar Society. She relocated in 2012 to the wonderful community of Oriel Gardens in Margate, Florida, which was filled with fellow Irish New Yorkers. She then moved to the Austin area in 2014, so that she could bravely battle cancer with her daughter by her side.
Rosemary was a devout Catholic and devotee of the Blessed Mother. She was a consummate hostess, a lover of life, family and friends, and an enthusiast of all things Irish, including the great County of Armagh, the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade down Fifth Avenue, Sunday afternoons of CEOL NA NGAEL on WFUV and a well-made Irish Coffee with no crème de menthe. She was fortunate to have a trusty tight-knit group of girlfriends in Ridgewood, and they were known for their pranks and Halloween escapades, meals at Daily Treat and laughter-filled conversations lasting into the wee hours of the morning over coffee and pastries. She never knew a stranger, and if you were lucky enough to be in her presence, you were often dubbed “Darlin’ ” and showered with praise and love, never doubting your own worth.
Rosemary was a dedicated friend, an amazing aunt (“aunt” to the children and grandchildren of cherished friends), and a wonderful mother. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed, but all are comforted by the fact that she lived life to the fullest.
She is predeceased by her parents, George and Rose Curry; her sister Joann Curry; her son James Curry Landrigan; her beloved husband of forty-nine years, James Francis Landrigan; and many other beloved friends and family members. She is survived by her best friend, daughter Maryann Norwood and husband Allen, of Austin, Texas; her sister Eileen Allison of Ridgewood; and her brother George Curry and wife Janine of Tequesta, Florida. She was a devoted aunt to many beloved nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, a loyal matriarch to many other family members, and a treasured friend to all who knew her.
