Rosemary Payton, 94, of Newnan, formerly of Atlanta, passed away at her home on Monday, September 25, 2017. She was born in Bristol, Tenn, on Mar 2, 1923 to the late Stanley F. Bates and Annie Isabell Bridge Bates. She grew up in Atlanta and graduated from Girls High. Rosemary and her late husband Henry N. Payton married and lived in Newnan, Ga. where he practiced law and she worked as his secretary. After her husband’s death Rosemary travelled and sang with her church group, the Swinging, Singing, Seniors of Newnan First United Methodist Church. She was a member of Kiwanis and several bridge clubs. She moved to Wesley Woods of Newnan in September 2015 where she continued to enjoy life and to play bridge until just recently when interrupted by declining health. Survivors include daughter Gail Churchill (Jim); grandsons Alex Brakefield (Dana) and Michael Wright; niece Barbara Wiley (Roger); nephew Stanley Bates (Janet); and many step- grandchildren and great grandchildren.
