Rose Marie Covert, 83, of New Buffalo, Michigan and recently of Three Oaks, died Monday morning, March 10, 2014 at LaPorte Hospital.
Rosie was born in Buchanan, Michigan on August 7, 1930, one of Frank and Josephine (Nekvasil) Fleck’s eight children. She graduated from New Buffalo High School in 1948 and on July 31, 1948 she married Jack Covert in Crown Point, Indiana. They have remained friends. Rosie was known as a woman full of energy and spunk. Her quick wit served her well when she worked as a waitress and as the owner of Rosie’s Restaurant in New Buffalo for many years.
Family members include her children, Terry (Patt) Covert of Cope, Colorodo; Tim (Laurie) Covert of Three Oaks, Michigan; Tom (Lauren) Covert of New Buffalo; Traci (Mike) Spencer of Three Oaks and Troy Covert (Barbara Anne Kosak) of Chicago; grandchildren, Rose Marie Covert, Maggie May and Brodie Sears; Michelle Renee Covert-Baxter and Cody J. Andrew Covert; James Garrison, Sarah (Jason) Volt, Glenn Garrison, Danielle Garrison and David Garrison; Abbey Jo Whitsel, Thomas Michael (Angel) Whitsel and Josie Rose Whitsel; Robyrt Williams, Jasmyne Carr, Buck Carr, Nicholas Covert and Jaime Covert; great grandchildren, Zak Lee, Eden Lee, Feona May and Sienna Marie Sears; Katie Lynn, Hunter Michael, and Jacob Timothy Stellwagen; Victoria Renee Wholfe, Taylor Alexis Baxter, Chase Antonia Baxter and Nekolai Aaron Baxter; Keenon Helms, Madeline Rose Helms and Talia Nowak; Zoey Elizabeth Whitsel; Hayla Covert, Hanley Covert and Gabriel Carr; sister, Kate Benington of Lansing, Michigan; and brothers Richard (Becky) Fleck of South Carolina and Jim Fleck of Baroda, Michigan.
She was preceded in death by her granddaughter Rachael Lynne Stellwagen who died in September of 2008, grandsons Ralph Whitsel and Jacob Covert Jr., sisters Betty Boughner and Barb Covert and brother Frank Fleck.
