Rose Marie Schwarz, nee Prochazka, died on Monday, February 2, 2015 at her home in O’Fallon, IL with her family near. Rose was born on June 16, 1934 in St. Louis, MO to Jerry & Rose Prochazka, nee Benda. Her father owned Moonlight Bowling Alley in O’Fallon in 1949, thus bringing Rose to O’Fallon. She married Bernard (Whitey) Schwarz on May 21, 1955. They enjoyed 59 years together, both being very involved in family and civic activities. Her main interest and activity was her 60 year membership in the American Legion Auxiliary, holding many offices on the local, district, and state levels, and Salon 148 8/40.
For many years she participated in the Illinois Girls’ State Program sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary. She also spent many hours volunteering at the VA Clinic in Belleville, IL and was a member of O’Fallon United Church of Christ. Rose spent many personal hours doing hand crafts, which she shared with family and friends. Having no children of her own, she excelled in caring for other youngsters, including Craig, Jeff, Linda, and Kevin Schmidt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Theresa (George) Micik; a brother, Jerry Prochazka; brothers-in-law, Floyd, Elmo, Jerry, and Howard Schwarz, and George Micik; and sisters-in-law, Irene, Barbara, and Gladys Schwarz. In addition to her husband, Rose is survived by her sisters-in-law, Muriel (Joel) McCrory, Doris (James) Hansen, and Lois (Donald) Schmidt; brothers-in-law, Arthur (Betty) Schwarz, Kenneth Schwarz, and Lloyd (Sue) Schwarz; as well as many nieces and nephews.
