Rose B. (Parenteau) Simard, 97, of Diana Street died Thursday at Landmark Medical Center after taking a fall at home. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Paul A. Simard, Sr., who died on March 31.
Mrs. Simard was born in Canada and emigrated to this country with her family as a young child. She was a daughter of Joseph and Marie (Giguere) Parenteau of Woonsocket and was predeceased by four brothers: Ubald, Germain, Bernard, and Raymond Parenteau, and three sisters: Cecile Parenteau, Marie Couture, and Rachel Giguere.
Mrs. Simard was graduated from St. Ann School in Woonsocket and went on to work in the woolen mills to help support her family. She took great pride in achieving a high school equivalency diploma later in life and was of great help to her five children with their homework. A lifelong homemaker, she enjoyed staying abreast of current events, reading novels, and sewing right up to her passing.
Mrs. Simard was a communicant of St. Theresa’s Church for 60 years and was a member and secretary of Les Dames de Ste. Anne for much of that time.

She is survived by three sons, Paul A. Simard, Jr., and his wife Nancy of Wellesley, Mass.; Raymond M. Simard and his wife Linda of Skokie, Ill; and Richard J. Simard of Worcester, Mass; two daughters, Jacqueline C. Simard of Princeton, N.J. and Claudette L. Simard of Blackstone. She also is survived by six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
