Rose Benedicta Hogenson, daughter of the late Ben and Henrietta (Jenison) Hogenson, was born at home November 5, 1923 in Belmond, Iowa. She was raised and educated in Belmond, surrounded by her loving mother, maternal grandparents, three farmer uncles and many cousins. She enjoyed school and excelled at geography, history, and English composition, and treasured her time with her grandparents and her cousins on their farms nearby. In the autum of 1941, Rose attended Iowa State University and Iowa State Teachers College. As America entered WW2 six months after her graduation from high school, Rose and her sister Ruth departed Iowa for California in 1943, where they worked at Lockheed in Burbank building P-38 aircraft until the war’s end. Returning to Iowa in 1945, Rose worked as a teacher in Belmond . While attending the wedding of a friend in Rockford, Illinois in spring 1946, Rose met her future husband, Ted R. Christian. Rose and Ted were married in Rockford on August 10,1946. The couple settled in that city where both worked for Stone & Webster Engineering. In 1951, Rose and Ted welcomed Scott to their family, followed by Lee in 1953 and Barbara in 1955. The following year, Ted’s work took the family to Buffalo for four years, Pittsburgh for two, and Indianapolis for a year. One of the happiest events in the Christian family’s life was the decision to move to Denver in 1962. As always, Rose joined many clubs, charitable and social organizations, taking active roles in leadership for four decades.
