Rosanna Eleanor, nee Calland May 18, 1915 to Dec. 10, 2010. 95 years old. Rose was born in Milnrow, Lancashire England. Her father, Joseph Calland, mother, Elsie, brother, Jack are all deceased. She has one daughter from her first marriage, Lynne Vasquez, nee Keating and one step ” daughter, Pat Price, from the “love of her life” Norman Eleanor. Rose married Norman in 1979 and moved to Shropshire England. Rose left school at 15 yrs to help support the family. She started work at the Coral Hill, a cotton mill in Newhey in the north of England where her grandfather was the “boss.” She had to work twice as hard because she was “family.” She worked on “munitions” during WWII and was head packer with her “approved by” name in every box of bombs shipped. In the 90″s, when a Houston, Texas newspaper wanted her war stories, she submitted her experiences and hers was printed. She always joked afterwards that she was a “published author.” She worked many jobs at a time to give her daughter, Lynne, the opportunities that she never had. The bond between them was unbreakable. Rose battled and survived cancer and a serious car accident that gave her problems for the rest of her life, but her attitude to life was beautiful. She loved everyone and everyone loved her. She was a gentle soul. She has family and friends all over the world that are mourning her passing. Norman, her love, passed away in 1990 and as pre-arranged she sold everything and moved to the USA to live with her daughter and son ” in ” law, Armando in Orange County, California. She traveled, made new friends, had fun and loved her Methodist Church in Mesa Verde, California. Her next move was due to Armando”s job to Houston, TX She found Ashford United Methodist Church and made many friends there. A promotion then took her to San Antonio, TX where she found and became a member of First UMC in Boerne and her Genesis Sunday School Class, which she loved. She became an active member of the Rainbow Senior Center (now called Kronkosky Place) shere Lynne was Site Director. When her son- in-law retired, they moved to California. Rose loved the weather and again being close to Veronica Przestalski, Lynne”s friend of 30 yrs, who she loved as a daughter. On vacation in San Antonio this summer at 95 yrs, she became ill and struggled with health issues until her passing. Many thanks go to the nursing staff at Cibolo Creek Rehabilitation Home in Boerne, TX for their care and to Stone Oak Methodist Hospital 4th Floor nursing staff for their outstanding love, compassion, and caring during her time of need. She was so easy to love. Rose was nicknamed “giggles” and she maintained that fun and enjoyment to the end. God is taking care of her now. We will keep you in our heart forever.
