JOHNSTON, Rosaline “Rose”. Portage. Rosaline died peacefully on Sunday afternoon, April 17, 2011, in Portage, MI. She was born December 5, 1915, in Kalamazoo, MI, a daughter of Albert and Rose Pitts McGlinsey and had been a lifelong area resident. Rose loved being outdoors enjoying her favorite activities of golfing, camping, fishing, gardening and yard work.
She was also an excellent baker and enjoyed cooking. Her family’s favorite specialty was her roast pork gravy and lemon meringue pie. Rose worked for several area retail shops including Ruby’s, Toy and Hobby Shop, McKenzie’s Bakery and First Federal Savings and Loan. On October 19, 1935, Rosaline was united in marriage with Elmer B. Johnston, who preceded her in death on May 29, 1989. She was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Albert and William.
Surviving are: two sons, Ronald Elaine Johnston of Kalamazoo and Larry Kathy Johnston of Battle Creek; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lois McGlinsey; several nieces and nephews; and her best friend, Phyllis Hicks.
