Mr. Ronald Willis Ottaway, of Viera, FL, formerly of Flint, Michigan died on Tuesday, October 24, 2017. He passed away peacefully, without pain, knowing he was loved. He was 74.
Ron was born on December 25, 1942, in Flint, Michigan to Grant and Dorothy Ottaway. The first born of three sons, he also had three brothers who were embraced by the family after they lost their father at a young age.
He joined the US Army in 1961 as a carpenter and bridge builder, and was an Expert Marksman and Boxer. While in Germany he married Angelika and later had a daughter and son. After active duty in the Army, in 1964, he began work at GM. He retired after 30 years as a welder and lineman.
In 1983, Ron met Joy, who had three daughters and a son. They married in December 1993 and moved to West Branch, Michigan and became snowbirds. Residing in Cross City Florida in the winters.
Ron loved to golf and also enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting guns at competitions, and playing cards. He took pride in building things and working in his garage. He could build or fix just about anything, trailers, hunting camps, additions to cabins and anything that had moving parts. He had many talents and he was always willing to share his knowledge with his children, step-children and friends.
Ron’s passion for his friends, meant you were always treated like family and referred to as brother or sister. Their children could only refer to him as Uncle Ron.
Ron is survived by his wife Joy, of 24 years; son Kenneth and wife Linda, Viera, FL; brothers Roger (Bonnie) Ottaway of Cross City, Florida; Jim (Janet) Sparks, Larry (Darlene) Sparks and John (Diana) Sparks all of Michigan; step-children, Dana (John) Crivella, Larry (Rebecca) Ostrom, Tonya (Adam) Dalgleish and Jamiee Carr all of Michigan; His Grandson, Kenneth Ottaway Jr. of Carlisle, PA and step-grandchildren, Arron, Courtney, BobAnna, Jana, Ronnie, David, Alexys and Kyle; and several step-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grant and Dorothy, his daughter Debbie, and brother Royce.
