Ronald Wayne Gordon, 69, of South Meriden, husband of Janet (Czerwonka) Gordon, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, August 2, 2016. Born in Middletown on December 14, 1946, he was the son of the late Irving and Estelle (Petscavage) Gordon. Ron was raised on his parent’s poultry farm in Middletown and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, Class of 1964. He went on to graduate Central Connecticut State University in 1968 with a Bachelors of Science in Biology and from Wesleyan University in 2002 with a Masters Degree in Animal Laboratory Sciences.

Ron was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 17-2, Secretary of the Central Connecticut Striper Club, Rookie of the Year and Ambassador of Sight for the Meriden Lions Club, lifetime member and former Treasurer of the Meriden Rod and Gun Club, former member of the Wallingford Rod and Gun Club and a member of the Ukrainian National Association. Ron worked for Yale University Medical School, beginning as a Laboratory Technician in 1968 quickly progressed to Lab Manager and Associate in Research and from 1995-2013 at Wesleyan University as Director of Animal Care Facility. He was a member of the Association of Animal Laboratory Sciences, the Southern New England Association of Laboratory Animal Sciences, Chairman of I.A.C.U.C. at Wesleyan, the 2005 recipient of the Charles River Medal for Excellence in Laboratory Animal Management, recipient of AALAS Turn-Key Award, and was a Lead Blood Gas Technician at St. Raphael’s, Yale and Bridgeport Hospitals. Ron was a lifelong student of the sciences as well as a teacher, an avid hunter, boater, fisherman, hiker, archer and gardener. He and his wife loved going to weekly concerts and listening to music and attending as many agricultural fairs in Connecticut as they could. He was a tremendous help to his son and daughter-in-law at their concession booth at the Durham Fair and loved taking his grandchildren fishing. Ron was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather and loyal friend to many. Along with his wife, Ron is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Jeffrey Otis and his son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Lynnea Gordon, all of Middletown; two grandchildren, Jack Otis and Sophia Otis; two brothers, Glenn Gordon and his wife, Joan and Yale Gordon; his sister, Jennette and her husband, Thomas Czypiga and many cousins and friends.
