Ronald “Ron” G. Barnhart, 57, of Centralia, passed away Monday, June 18, 2018 at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia.
Ron was born September 11, 1960 in Centralia, son of Weldon “Barney” Barnhart and Shirley (Reimer) Barnhart. He married his high school sweetheart, Joy Bateman, on October 18, 1980 and she survives in Centralia.
In addition to his mother, Shirley Barnhart of Centralia, he is survived by his wife of 37 years, Joy of Centralia, two brothers: Ken Barnhart of Lenexa, Kansas and Don Barnhart and wife Dawn of Franklin, Tennessee; a sister: Gayla Jackson and husband Greg of Centralia; in-laws: Jerry and Kay Bateman of Arcadia, FL.; two sisters-in-law: Jerri Ann Miller and husband Mark of Braidenton, FL. and Diana Wolf and husband Dan of Centralia; eleven nieces and nephews: Lori (Barnhart) Heinze and husband Jared of Overland Park, KS, Angela (Barnhart) Hull and husband Ryan of Eldorado, KS, Ryan Barnhart and wife Eilish of United Kingdom, Emma Barnhart, Spencer Barnhart, Brittany (Jackson) Dobill and husband Dustin of Mulkeytown, IL., Callie Jackson of Carbondale, IL., Lori (Miller) St. Clair and husband Troy of High Ridge, MO., Jarrod Miller and wife Jennifer of St. Petersburg, FL., Ryan Doetsch and wife Erica of Columbia, IL., Curtis Doetsch and wife Melissa of Collinsville, IL., Jennifer (Doestch) Phoenix and husband Matt of Centralia, IL., 16 great nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Weldon “Barney” Barnhart.
Ron was a Centralia High School Graduate of the Class of 1978. Ron worked at the Centralia Correctional Center for 29 ½ years in various positions. After retiring from the Correctional Center he worked part-time at SSM Heath St. Mary’s Hospital as a security guard and then later as a hospital volunteer. He assisted at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia and volunteered for the American Red Cross DAT, Centralia Humane Society, an EMT for Lifestar Ambulance, and a volunteer firefighter for the Centralia Fire Protection District. He was a member of the Central City Lions Club serving as vice president and a member of the Central Christian Church in Mt. Vernon, where he also volunteered on mission trips. He enjoyed hunting, playing golf, riding his Can-Am Spyder, enjoyed camping with his good friends, Bryan & Terri Reynolds. Ron was also an avid St. Louis Cardinal Fan. Ron was loved by all that got to know him and loved being a prankster.
