Ronald Peterlin, 87, of Peru, formerly of Oglesby, passed away Thursday, January 13, 2022 at his home.

Ron was born on August 26, 1934 in Oglesby to Adolph Sr. and Irene (Toll) Peterlin. He graduated from LaSalle-Peru High School in 1952. He played football, basketball and ran track. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 and 1956 and was stationed for most of those two years at the U.S. Weather Bureau in Spokane, WA. He attended L.P.O. Junior College where he also played football. He graduated from Rockford School of Business in 1959. He married Barbara Sampo on September 8, 1956 at Holy Family Church in Oglesby. They were married for 59 years and 2 1/2 months when she passed away on November 23, 2015.

Ron worked as an accountant at the Canfield Clinic in Rockford until December 1962. He then began working at American Nickeloid Company in Peru, retiring in 1999 as General Manager and Vice President of Finance.

Ron served on the board of directors of First National Bank in Peru and it’s successor Amcore National Bank; Illinois Valley Chamber of Commerce for eight years, four of which as treasurer; Illinois Manufacturers Association for eight years; Deer Park Country Club for four years, one of which he served as president.

He was a member of Holy Family Church in Oglesby where he was also a member of the male choir, which he referred to as “the Has Been’s”.

Ron was a member for Peru Rotary Club for over 56 years, retiring in December 2019. During his 56 years, he served on the Board of Directors and served as president for one year. He was chairman of the Peru Rotary IVCC Scholarship Award Committee since 1973. Upon retirement, the scholarship was renamed the Ron Peterlin Scholarship Award.

Survivors include three children, Robert Peterlin of Raleigh, NC, James (Tracy) Peterlin of Oswego and Carol (Tim) Ploch of Oglesby; eight grandchildren, Ryan Weistart, Adam, Cody and Brady Peterlin, Griffin Lawrence, Sophie, Lyla and Allison Ploch, a brother, Gary (Lana) Peterlin of Oglesby and a sister-in-law, Jackie Peterlin of Oglesby.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara; a sister, Shirley Basil and a brother, Adolph Peterlin Jr.

Pallbearers will be Ryan Weistart, Cody Peterlin, Brady Peterlin, Sophia Ploch, Lyla Ploch, Bill Basil, Dennis Basil, Terri Essl, Steve Peterlin, Marshall Peterlin, Brian Peterlin, Jennifer Tang, Tara Ebner and Mike Bima. Honorary Pallbearers will be Hank Piscia and Louie Pioli.
