Lakeland – Ronald Peter Muraro, 68, passed away Sunday, February 16, 2014, as a result of complications of Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Mr. Muraro was born January 3, 1946 in Leesburg, FL. He graduated from the University of Florida with a master’s degree in agricultural economics in 1969. Mr. Muraro began his career at the University of Florida’s Citrus Research and Education Center in Lake Alfred, FL in 1971, where he served as a citrus economist. He published several books and multiple professional articles, as well as annual statistics on citrus production costs. Mr. Muraro also consulted and lectured extensively in South and Central America and citrus producing countries throughout the world. He retired in September 2013 as a professor emeritus of agricultural economics. He was a devout catholic and a 4th degree Knight of Columbus.
Mr. Muraro was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 32 years, Linda Wilson Muraro. He is survived by his son, Ronny A. Muraro; sister, Emily M. Rey and her husband, Andrew; brother, Robert E. Muraro and his wife, Delia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
