Ronald Michael Gordon Christensen was born October 7, 1984 in Boise, Idaho, to Steven and Shannon Christensen. He died suddenly on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Pocatello, Idaho.
From the time he was small boy, Michael always had a ball in his hands, any kind of ball. He loved to play T-ball, baseball, basketball, and bowling. Michael moved to Fairbanks, Alaska, in 1991 with his parents and brother, Daniel. He attended St. Mary’s School in Boise and Immaculate Conception, Tanana Middle, Lathrop and Howard Luke in Fairbanks. He played baseball in North Star Little League, including All Star teams each year. In 1999 Michael was Fairbanks and Alaska State Champion for YABA, the first for Arctic Bowl. He placed seventh in the International YABA tournament in Salt Lake City that year. He was a Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Altar Server.
In December 2000, Michael was diagnosed with osteosarcoma (bone cancer) and was treated until August 2001 at Children’s Hospital in Seattle. During that time he passed his GED and obtained his diploma with the help of Howard Luke Academy staff. He struggled the rest of his life with pain and replacements of implants, but remained cancer-free.
Michael loved cooking and worked in many restaurants in Fairbanks, Seattle, Tacoma, Boise valley, and Pocatello.
Michael liked to ‘know the rules’ and served as an umpire for North Star Little League one summer. He believed in fairness, justice, and peace, even when defending himself or others. Above all he believed in loving and looking out for others (1 Corinthians 13).
He liked all kinds of nicknames (Cornbread, Ron, Mike, MikRon, Chef Ron) but his favorite was “Dad.” He is survived by his daughter, Sekiya Renae Louise Christensen of Seattle. He is also survived by his parents; brother, Daniel of Fairbanks; brothers, Geoff Smartt (Michelle) of Middleton, Idaho, Charles Smartt (Sandi) of Spanish Fork, Utah, and Adam Christensen of Pocatello; sisters, Mary Zrubek (Darren) of Boise, Kristina Juarez, and Tracy Serna of Pocatello; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends all over the US.
