Ronald Macek, age 79, of Algona, died on Sunday, June 22, 2014 at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. Ronald Gene Macek, the son of John and Gisela Elizabeth (Jurisin) Macek, Sr., was born on July 18, 1934 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1952 and attended Fort Dodge Junior College for one year. On June 2, 1957 Ron was united in marriage with Gloria Joyce Averill in Fort Dodge. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. Ron worked at Hormel for 46 years retiring in 1999. At the time of his retirement, Ron was the longest tenured employee with Hormel. Ron enjoyed softball and was inducted into the Fort Dodge Softball Hall of Fame in 1979. He also enjoyed pitching horse shoes, fishing, cooking, crossword puzzles and attending his grandchildren’s activities. Left to cherish Ron’s memory is his wife of 57 years. Joyce; children, Steven John (Betsy) Macek of Goffstown, NH and Stacy Lyn (Kent) Barber of Algona; four grandchildren, Brandon and Justin Macek and Ian and Connor Barber; three brothers, John Macek, Jr. of Fort Dodge, Robert Macek of Mason City and Michael (Ann) Macek of Fort Dodge; two sisters, Marian Lee Michel of Boone and Darlene Eischeid of Des Moines; a brother-in-law, Dick Seymour of Fort Dodge; two sister-in-laws, Veronica Averill of Fort Dodge and Toni (Phil) Roberts of Rippey; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Margaret Macek, Gizella Olson and Barbara Seymour; and brothers, Victor, Paul, Milan and Carlo Macek; father and mother-in-law, James and Doris Averill; and a brother-in-law, Jim Averill.
