Ronald L. Schroen, 82, of Washington, IL, passed away at 9:30 pm, Thursday, May 12, 2022, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. On March 3, 1940, he was born in Washington, IL, the son of William and Lois Crank Schroen. 

Surviving is one nephew Derek (Leslie) Schroen of Pflugerville, TX, one sister-in-law Alice Meurn of Washington, and a host of extended family and friends. His parents, one brother Richard in 2020, and one sister Judith Kay Brewer-Bauer, in 2016 all preceded him in death.

Ron retired from University Ford in 2002. He was also employed as a newspaper carrier for the Peoria Journal Star, retiring in the winter of 2019. Ron was a graduate of Washington Community Highschool, managing for coach Noah Hickman’s football Panthers.

Ron was the WCHS boys’ basketball scorekeeper from 1984 until 2014 for coaches Steve Doty and Kevin Brown. He also scored WCHS Girls basketball for many years. Ron scored for the WCHS Volleyball Panthers and coaches Kim Hurley and Dawn Davis. He also scored junior high boys’ basketball for coaches Mike Adams and Dave Adams. Ron began scoring for the WCHS softball Panthers and Clint Reed in 2003 and continued scoring for coach Stephanie Lawson through this season. During the fall IESA Softball season, Ron kept score for Coach Lawson’s Central Trojans. Ron also worked WCHS boys and girls track meets for Rocky Cooper.

Ron was named Panther Booster Club’s “Fan of the Year in 1993 and was elected to the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association “Hall of Fame” in 2007.
