Ronald L. Young, 78, of Bethlehem, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2012 in his home surrounded by his loving family, after battling stomach cancer. Ronald was the husband of Regina (Shiffert) Young of 53 years. Born in Wilmington, DE, he was the son of the late Vernon T. and Mabel E. “Boots” Young. He graduated from Liberty High School in 1952 and Philadelphia College of Pharmacy & Science in 1956. After which, he served in the US Army as a medical laboratory technician. After discharge in 1958, he worked for his father as a pharmacist at Hess Drug Store. He and his brother Barry bought the business in 1970. Later, they added the Healthcare & Surgical Supply Division, provided medications to several nursing homes and kidney dialysis clinics in the area, and “The Art of Giving” Gift Shop. He retired in 1994. Since 1945, Ronald was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Bethlehem, where he served as an usher for many years, was president of the Council of Ministries and co-chaired the Council of Missions, with his wife. They organized and he led a mission trip to Haiti in 1978 to build and set up a Medical Clinic. He and Regina were Family Life Coordinators, establishing Marriage Enrichment weekends. Rons passions were his grandchildren, the study and practice of nutrition and his time with friends at the St. Lukes North gym. Survivors: In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Victoria Ward and her husband Stephen and Leslie Bowen and her husband Christopher; 8 grandchildren, Jamie and Taylor Young, Geoffrey and Jonathan Hart, Christopher Jr., Sarah and Alex Bowen and Abigayle Ward; sister, Tacey Jean Funk; brother, V. Barry Young and his wife Louise Harris Young. Ronald was precede in death by his son David K. Young in 2007 and daughter-in-law Wendy (Roller) Young in 2008, both to cancer.
