Ronald L. Mowry, 75, of Ashland, IL passed away Sunday, February 11, 2018, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.
He was born April 18, 1942 in Springfield, the son of Gilbert and Mary Jane Richards Mowry. He married Mary Ann Blakeman on October 14, 1964 in Ashland and she survives.
He is also survived by two sons, Robert “Bob” Mowry and Christopher Mowry (companion, Melissa Smock), all of Ashland; two granddaughters, Ally Mowry of Springfield and Nataley Minor of Ashland; three grandsons, David Mowry, Blake Mowry, and Tyler Minor, all of Ashland; three great grandchildren, Madelyn, Lindy and Norah; and a sister, Mary Louise Crouch of Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Linda Lou Mowry in infancy.
A 1960 graduate of Pleasant Plains High School, Ron worked four years with Morgan County FS at Prentice before joining Brandt Fertilizer in Ashland, where he was employed over 30 years at the time of his retirement. He was a member of the former Pleasant Plains Church of Christ.
His greatest passion was auto racing and he remained one of their greatest fans. Ron formerly competed as a driver at the Jacksonville and Quincy Speedways and more recently was found supporting his grandson’s racing career with the 4M Mowry Racing Team. He also followed NASCAR events especially when the Brandt Racing Team and Justin Allgaier were competing.
