Ronald Jean Nicholls went to walk the streets of gold on July 19, 2018. He passed at his home in Cascade; his fight with cancer is finally over.
Jean, as he was known by family and friends, was born September 21, 1946 to Les Nicholls, Jr. and Elsie (Standley) Nicholls in Great Falls. He joined his siblings, Gerald, Joyce (Dwaine) Pettapiece and Joanne (Harry) Catrin at his family’s ranch east of Cascade.
In 1972, he met Lanah, his best friend, helpmate and love in Bozeman. They were united in marriage December 26, 1972 in Bozeman with their children, Jeanna (Ty) Mullennex, Kimberly (Jeff) Anderson, Michael and James. Jean and Lanah were married for 46 years and ranched east of Cascade on the Old Bent place and the family ranch. On November 24, 1975 their son, Jacob, was born. Jean loved all five of his children and was blessed to be their father.
In 2002, Jean and Lanah sold their ranch and moved to Florida for twelve years. Cowboys do not take well to city life so four years he got his wish to return to Montana.
Jean is survived by his wife, Lanah, his five children, eight grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, many nieces and nephews and his sister, Joanne.
Jean was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Jerry, and his sister, Joyce.
Those who knew Jean were truly blessed. You could find him on the creek searching for gold, making a stained glass lamp or building something on his honey-do-list.
Jean will always live in our hearts. We wish to thank Dr. Berdeaux and Peace Hospice for their care.
