Ronald J. Thomas 78, of Centralia, passed away Thursday, November 28, 2019 at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia.
Ronald was born on February 12, 1941 in Centralia, the son of James Theodore Thomas and Izetta (Hite) Thomas.
He married Julia Moore on October 12, 1959 in Centralia, and she survives him. In addition to his wife Julia of 60 years, he is survived by his children: Rodney Thomas of Centralia, Pamela Thomas of Houston, TX, Seth Thomas of Centralia, and Marlena Burton of Carbondale; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister-in-law: Chanda Thomas; and several nieces and nephews.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents: James and Izetta Thomas, one brother: Charles S. Thomas; two sisters: Imogene Norris and husband James, and Gwendolyn Davis; two infant siblings: Stanley and Imalee Thomas; one son-in-law: Craig Burton; and four nephews: Thurman Thomas, Troy Norris, Craig and Corey Gleghorn.
Ronald was a member of the First Apostolic Church in Centralia. He enjoyed any kind of sport, but his passion was Golfing. He worked for the Illinois Department of Corrections for 25 ½ years, retiring as Captain. After retiring from IDOC, he worked for Governors Run Golf Course and most recently as a crossing guard for the Centralia City Schools.
