Ron Hughes age 93, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2022 under the kind and compassionate care of the wonderful staff at Laurelwoods at the Pine Hills, an assisted living and memory care facility in Plymouth, MA, where Ron resided for 2 years. He passed on Father’s Day and his children and grandchildren consider that a fitting tribute. Ron was a wonderful role model for his sons, son in laws and grandsons on what a remarkable father can be. He was born in 1929 to Claude T. and Leah B. Hughes in Livingston, IL. He attended Long Point High School and graduated from Illinois State University. Ron enjoyed a long and successful career in Finance at General Electric where he worked for over 35 years, retiring in 1989. As a young man, Ron was an exceptional athlete, playing four years of varsity basketball and baseball at Illinois State University. He was inducted in to the ISU Hall of Fame for his basketball accomplishments, and also was drafted to play professional baseball, but he chose to join the US Marine Corp to serve his country during the Korean war. He married Phyllis Jean Herrington in 1954 was blessed with 49 years of marriage and five children whom he dedicated his life to each and every day. In retirement, he was an avid golfer, enjoyed boating and fishing and watching his beloved Boston Bruins and Red Sox. Above all, his passion was his family.
