Ronald Edward Mitchell (Ronnie), 84, of the Richardson community, died on September 29, 2019, at Hospice Ministries of Ridgeland, surrounded by his loved ones. Ronnie was remembered for his love, humor, kindness, storytelling, appreciation of music, and patriotism, as well as for being a sports enthusiast, and a faithful father, husband, and was the eighth of ten children born to Mabel Stuart Mitchell and Luther L. Mitchell in the Richardson community. After graduating from Carriere High School, Ronnie worked at Thigpen Hardware. He spoke often and fondly of the many friendships he cultivated and the impact the Thigpens had on his life. He then worked at Picayune Post Office as a city mail carrier until he retired after 32 years of service. Even at the end of life these last three weeks at Highland Community Hospital where he received superb care, Ronnie recalled the street addresses of some of his caretakers because of his decades of delivering mail. From singing in the choir at First Baptist Church, Picayune, to coaching little league, Ronnie’s integrity and joking nature permeated his relationships and friendships.Mitchell was no stranger to suffering and loss. Yet, he lived a life filled with hope and joy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Jeanine Smith Mitchell (1938-1973); son, Roger Edward Mitchell (1971); son, Alan Ronald Mitchell (1962-1984).After Jeanine died, Ronnie devoted his life to rearing their three children before marrying again. Ronnie and Barbara married in 1988 and were blessed with 22 years together before he was also preceded in death by Barbara Lowe Willoughby (1944-2011)…
