Ronald (Ron) Eugene Pollard, 78, of Chariton, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Legacy Lodge after battling cancer for many years.
He was born February 20, 1938 to Joseph and Beulah (Woods) Pollard in Osceola, Iowa. Ron graduated from Clarke County High School in 1957. On December 1, 1960, he married Evelyn Overton, in Osceola, Iowa.
Ron proudly served his country for 20 years in the U. S. Navy. After ‘retirement,’ Ron and Evelyn ran an auction house, where Ron served as an auctioneer and the family (including extended) were involved. They also operated a furniture store and he drove a school bus for several years.
Ron enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s ball games where he often gave out scooter rides and handed out small monetary gifts to children for silly reasons. Ron didn’t know a stranger and liked to talk and entertain everyone with his stories as he had traveled all over the world in his Navy career. He greatly enjoyed attending Navy reunions and swapping sea stories with his shipmates.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three infant siblings, Brother Raymond Pollard and sister-in-law Suzanne Pollard.
The family would like to give special thanks to Marla Overton, sister-in-law, and the staff of Circle of Friends and Legacy Lodge for their care through his illness.
