Ron was born in Vinton, Iowa, May 26, 1949, he was the son of Francis B. and Kathryn (Smothers) Dougherty of Des Moines, Iowa. He served in the US Navy from 1968 through 1974 in US Navy Communications.
He is survived by his son Michael and fiancé Krista, a daughter Kimberley Domsch, his grandchildren, Katie, Alex, Trenton, Tashia, Elisa, Gage, Riley, and great-grandson Samson; one brother, Randy B. Dougherty of Silver Springs, Maryland a niece Shawna; one sister Theresa L. Dougherty of Des Moines, Iowa; two nephews, Sean Dougherty of Reeds Springs, Missouri; Shane Dougherty of Joppa, Maryland.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Patrick.
