Ronald McCreesh was born on January 10, 1937 in West Point, New York to Gladys and Bernie McCreesh. He died on October 29, 2021 at the Memorial Hospital in Odessa, Texas after a lengthy illness.
He and his mother moved to Roswell, New Mexico in 1935. He attended Roswell High School and graduated in May 1937. He attended Eastern New Mexico University and earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in History. He later attended classes over several years and earned an Education Specialists Degree.
Ron taught Government and history in Anthony, New Mexico for 2 years. He and his family moved to Hobbs in August 1963 where he taught Government and History at Hobbs High School for 35 years. He retired in May 1999. His years at Hobbs High School, he served as a teacher, Department Head and Director of AP Programs for the high school and the junior high school. He loved to help his students learn about past and present history of the U.S. and the World. He was also adamant that his students understand how the government really worked. He taught them the importance of the structure of the U.S. Constitution and how it maintained its strength over 200 years so that our country can continue to remain a democracy with freedom for all.
Ron was an avid reader and collector of books and comics over his 84 years of life. He had collected over 30,000 books over Sci-Fi, mystery, adventure, crimes, comics, and biographies.
He is survived by his wife Stella after 62 years of marriage; Daughter Debbie Cooper of Texarkana, TX; Son Wayne (Helen) McCreesh of Aurora, CO; Son Mark (Maria) McCreesh of Hobbs, NM; Daughter Wendy McCreesh of Las Cruces, NM; Daughter Sue (Dwain) Haynes of Eunice, NM; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was a granddaughter, Jessica Findley, his Mother, Gladys McCreesh, and his grandparents.
