On Sunday, February 5, 2023, Ronald Sims made his peaceful transition at Althea Woodland nursing home in Silver Spring, Maryland at the age of 85.  Ron was born in New York City to Alfred Gumbs and Margaret Sims and was affectionately called Boobie by many in Harlem – a nick name given to him by his mother when he was a young man.

Ronald attended Dewitt Clinton High School in the Bronx where he broke the 100-yard dash track record in 1953.  He was a graduate of North Central College in Naperville, Illinois, and a member of the United States Navy.

Ron enjoyed music – R&B and Jazz mostly, but he also enjoyed Rap and Hip Hop.  He loved taking pictures and was a dapper dresser.  He had charisma and style of his own.  He and several of his closest friends started the Aristocrats, a well-known social organization in Harlem in the 60s.  He made a living as technical engineer for several radio and television stations like WABC in New York and WWOR-TV in New Jersey.

Ron Sims was survived by 1 daughter, Rhonda Reives, 3 sons Tracy Sims, Sean Sims, and Ronald Sims, 9 grandchildren, Michael, Lauren, Deshaun, Sean, Anthony, Mia, Jacob, Madison, and Olivia and 7 great grandchildren.  Preceding Ronald in death were 2 sisters, Adelaide, and Elizabeth and 1 brother, John.
