Ronald A. Alvarez, 83, of Three Oaks, Michigan died Monday morning, May 2, 2011 at The Arbors of Michigan City. Ron was born July 18, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois to Albert and Helen (Vargo) Alvarez. After graduating from Tilden Tech High School, he served his country in the US Coast Guard during WWII aboard the USS Abilene. Ron married Dorothy M. Douglas on April 26, 1948 in Crown Point, Indiana.
He was employed as a Fireman for the Chicago School Board for 36 years before retiring. Ron was an avid reader, he was a stamp collector, and he enjoyed tinkering around the house and yard. He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church and was a lifetime member of the Randall Couchman American Legion Post 204, Three Oaks. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, sons, C. Albert Alvarez of Fort Wayne, Indiana and Stanton (Sheridan) Alvarez of Lake Villa, Illinois; grandson, Garth (Amy)Alvarez; and great granddaughters, Cayla and Jori. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Brian Alvarez.
