Ron Petak, 71, of Montezuma and formerly Fairview, died Tuesday, April 5, 2011, in the early afternoon, at his residence. He became ill and entered hospital on Nov. 8th 2010. He was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure and COPD. Nov. 18th he received an open heart quad-bypass. He had several complications and left the hospital on Dec. 23, 2010. He  went to the Waters of Clinton for rehabilitation. He left the Waters on Feb. 26, 2011 to return to his own residence.
He was born Dec. 23, 1939, at home in Fairview, to Frank and Louise Harshman Petak, who preceded him in death. His sister, Linda Petak, also preceded him in death on April 23, 2006.
Survivors include his daughter, Krista Divan, grandson Nathan Divan and son-in-law, Mike Divan, cousins, and extremely helpful neighbors, Charlie Farner, Steve & Dave Stone and Ron Vandevender. Because these neighbors were so helpful, he was able to keep his wish and remain in his own residence until his passing.
Ron graduated from Clinton High School in 1959. He was an Eagle Scout with Order of the Arrow Brotherhood. While in high school, he went to Boys State, played football, basketball, track, in the Latin Club and CHS Capers Review.
He was retired manager from Burnett Manor Apartments, at Rockville.
He was very happy to spend the past 6 summers being able to watch his grandson Nathan while mom was at work. He was so very, very proud of Nathan. He was always willing to lend a helping hand; he could probably repair just about anything and was an excellent cook. He loved animals, was a member of the US Humane Society. When he went into the hospital he had to let his dog, Shep, return back to his original owner, Kathy Gilley, for a good home.
