J. Ronald “Ron” Hadden, 63, of rural Jacksonville, IL and formerly of Cooperstown, IL died Thursday, March 4, 2010 in rural Morgan County as a result of injuries sustained in a truck-train accident.

He was born October 25, 1946 in Jacksonville; the son of John L. and Jeanette Braner Hadden. He married Judy Stice on June 22, 1968 in Murrayville, IL and she survives.

He is also survived by his parents of Jacksonville; two sons, Matt Hadden (wife, Laura) of Burlington, IA and Phillip Hadden of Jacksonville; a daughter, Rebecca Hadden of Chicago; two grandchildren, Nicholas and Michael Hadden of Burlington, IA; and several cousins.

Mr. Hadden was a 1964 graduate of Jacksonville High School and a 1969 graduate of McKendree University in Lebanon. He was an instructor for the Illinois Contractors Training Program in rural Mt. Sterling for 26 years and has been employed for over 10 years as a vocational instructor at the Western Illinois Correctional Center in Mt. Sterling. He was of the Roman Catholic faith.

A former First Class Scout, Ron continued his dedication to Boy Scouting through his service as a former scoutmaster of Troop 11 in Mt. Sterling. He was also a Vigil Member of the Order of the Arrow. He enjoyed trapping, fishing, and woodcarving. He maintained a keen interest in Native American history, Native American music, and archeology; often donating his time at Dickson Mounds Historical Site. He had a special love of the Blues and enjoyed attending Blues Festivals.
