Romulo “Romeo” Castillo, Jr.

April 22, 1938 – September 20, 2018

Romeo B. Castillo Jr., 80, passed peacefully after a battle with Alzheimer’s on September 20, 2018.

If anything could be said about Romeo, it is that everyone who knew him had their own special story to tell about his antics. Loved for his sense of humor and playful nature, he could also give you one look and you’d know he meant business. Romeo spent the majority of his life in Harlingen, TX but not before joining the United States Navy at 17 and traveling the world. Later, he passed down stories of his adventures from his world travels and other experiences to his children and grandchildren, and what a great storyteller he was! After he came home from the Navy, he lived in several places including, San Antonio and Dallas working as a loan collector. When he finally settled again in his hometown of Harlingen, he spent time working with his father in a bail bond business everyone knew as Ro-Ca Bail Bonds, then after, opened his own loan company and pawn shop, RBC Loans and Pawn, which operated for about 20 years in Harlingen’s downtown area.  Later he spent his time keeping himself busy cutting lawns, visiting with his many friends over coffee, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Romeo is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Barbara O. Castillo; children, Dina Marie Castillo, Romeo Castillo III, Vivian Castillo-Vega, and John Gerard Castillo (Corina); grandchildren, Nathaniel Castillo, Gavin Castillo, Jacob Vega, and Seth Vega; Ex-wife, Dalia C. Castillo, sisters, Luz C. Martinez (+Armando Martinez Sr.), and Juana Idolina ‘Jeanie’ Castillo, and numerous nephews & nieces.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Luz B. Rodriguez; step-father, Arturo Rodriguez; father, Romulo Castillo Sr.; step-mother, Idolina Castillo.
