Romayne DeGroot Lucas, 89, of Springfield, IL and formerly of Jacksonville, IL passed away Saturday, October 10, 2020 at Aperion Care Capitol in Springfield.
She was born May 18, 1931 in Meredosia, IL, the daughter of Ray W. “Red” and Mabel Sumpter Gobbel. She married Roland William DeGroot and he preceded in death on October 8, 1999.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda; two sons, Roland Jr. and Mark; and their families. She was preceded in death by a son, Dennis “Doc”, and four brothers.
Romayne was employed at Woolworth’s retail store and the Bound to Stay Bound Book Bindery prior to her over 20 year career with the Jacksonville Developmental Center. She was a member of the AFSCME Retirees Club.
With a special passion for music, Romayne enjoyed singing and all forms of dancing from ballroom to square and line dancing. She had a keen eye for antiques and at one time had amassed a collection of antique clocks. She was also a devout bargain and garage sale shopper. She loved to drive new cars and always enjoyed solving the puzzles on “Wheel of Fortune” episodes. Yet her greatest sense of pride was found in being a mother to her four children.
