West Bend, Roman “Romie” William Knecht, the son of Theodore and Emma Salz Knecht was born January 9, 1927, in Whittemore, Iowa where he was raised, educated, and graduated from high school.  On July 12, 1956, he was united in marriage with Ardith Henry at St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church in Algona.  The couple lived their married lives in West Bend. Romie worked for the railroad and the creamery in West Bend then managed the Standard Oil Service Station in West Bend for 40 years. Romie was a member of St. Peter and Paul’s Church in West Bend and the Knights of Columbus. He was a school bus driver for the West Bend-Mallard School for 10 years and helped his son-in-law, Dave Hefty, farm during harvest season. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, Cleveland Browns, and Los Angeles Dodgers.  He looked forward to his time every morning at the Villager Coffee Shop visiting and bantering with all of his friends.  Survivors include his wife Ardith (Ardie) of West Bend, IA, daughters Becky (Dave) Hefty of West Bend, IA and Julie (Neil) Montag of West Bend, IA, 9 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.

Romie was preceded in death by his parents, son Bill, and siblings Rolanda, Harold, Beatrice, and Norbert (Nub).
