Roma Radia Smith Garrett died of natural causes related to age on December 21, 2009 at the home of her daughter in Meridian, Idaho.  She was born November 27, 1916 in Rexburg, Idaho and was the last surviving child of Willis Alvin and Lillie Lerwill Tucker Smith’s eight children.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Owen Garrett in 1988, a grandson in 1998, and son-in-law in 2005.  Roma is survived by her children, Lynn Burns, Spokane, WA, Charlene Smith, Meridian, ID, Stan Garrett, Junction City, OR, and Paul Garrett, Charlotte, NC.  She leaves behind posterity of 18 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and one great, great-grandson.

Roma lived most of her growing up years in the Salt Lake Valley and later moved with her husband and two young daughters to Portland, OR in 1946 where their two sons were born.  Over her lifetime, she worked in various secretarial and clerical positions.  Roma and Owen worked side by side as the owners of a small town grocery store in Tualatin, OR for 10 years.  She was also active in the city government and school district during that time.

After the death of Owen, she moved to Arvada, CO to live with her son, Paul and his family and had the opportunity to move to Maryland with them when he was transferred.  After residing in the East for several years, she moved back to Salt Lake City and the Wasatch Mountains which always felt like home.

In 2002, Roma moved to Meridian, ID to live with her daughter, Charlene where she enjoyed being a part of the lives of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, known to them as Grandma Great. She was active in the Daughters of the Utah pioneers.

The family would like to thank Life Doors Hospice and the women of the Tuscany Ward Relief Society for their support and caring during these last three months of her life.
